blackrose, the brand.

Blackrose is a boutique videography & photography company specializing in destination and mixed-culture weddings. Based in Vancouver & London. And available for travel worldwide. Prioritizing telling love stories in an authentic, emotional, and unique way.

So far, I’ve had the privilege of telling love stories in Italy, Paris, Spain, England, Mexico, and Vancouver. Documenting over 150+ weddings, specializing in many different cultures and religions. From Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, Chinese, Fijian, Eritrean, Persian, and more than I can name here.

Through my 6+ years in the wedding industry, I’ve noticed that so many videos are the same. Pretty shots, the same sequence, and overly happy/loving music. I’ve personally never identified with those kinds of videos. To me, they’re not authentic. Every couple has their own unique love story. Why would you ever want to force yours to look exactly like someone else's? We all deserve to be seen and celebrated for our differences.

To me, love is many things. Love is a choice, love is happy, sad, dramatic, passionate and emotional. Love is not perfect. Love is vulnerable, and has depth. Love is not binary. Love is love.

First and foremost these photos and videos are about YOU. It’s your love story, I just have the privilege to tell it. When you see the finished product, it will feel authentic and unique, just like your love.

Will yours be the next love story I tell?

blackrose; There’s a lot of variation in the definition of a black rose. Black roses don’t exist in the real world, only in stories. Black roses can mean the end of something but they can also be the beginning of something new. A new journey, a new beginning. A black rose is mysteriously beautiful and exclusive; just like love.

blackrose, the experience.

The wedding process can be so stressful. With millions of decisions to be made, from the planning, to hiring different vendors. My number one goal is to make this whole process as simple, comfortable and fun for you as possible. Dealing with vendors should not be a source of stress. It should be a source of ease and excitement. From first inquiry to after your wedding. I’ll be there to guide you through every step of the process.

I want to get to know you, as individuals , and together as a couple. Understand your wants, and the vision for your special day. The biggest thing for me is making you both feel comfortable, seen, and understood. As someone who doesn’t like being infront of the camera myself, I understand how stressful and awkward it can be. My goal is to not only create something you can look back and remember fondly. But to give you an experience that you remember. From how comfortable you felt, how much you laughed, to how natural and authentic I captured you on camera.

My name is Ryan Stushnoff. I’m not going to tell you something cheesy like how it’s my mission to capture your special day “one frame at a time” or anything like that. I’d like to tell you who I really am. I believe vulnerability attracts vulnerability. So if I expect you to open up and share who you are with me on your wedding day with me. I think it’s just as important I do the same.

“Ordinary” has never been something that’s for me. If anyone can have it, I don’t want it. I’ve been doing photography and videography for 8 years now. Other than that, my other true love in life is fashion. A lot of my work is heavily influenced by fashion. People like Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford are some of my biggest inspirations. In 2016 I accomplished one of my life and career goals when I got to photograph New York Fashion Week. As well as have been featured on Vogue Thailand, Ellements Magazine, Daily Hive Vancouver, and more.

Another huge passion of mine is travel. Learning and experiencing other cultures. My number one travel goal for this year is to go to India. Photographing so many Indian weddings over the years. It’s really given me a love and appreciation for Indian culture. From the craziness, colors, and the strong sense of family and tradition. It’s inspired me to start learning Hindi. “Goreyaan de kam.” Another huge passion and influence in my life is music. Artists such as Blackbear, Jeremy Zucker, Quinn XCII, Bryce Vine, and Lauv.

Besides fashion and music. You can always find me drinking an iced coffee. No matter what time of year. and posting memes on instagram. @RStushnoff ;) Although it may seem like it. I don’t take myself super seriously. I love making people laugh, joking around and poking fun at myself. I think laughter is a universal connection.

Now you know my story.
